got initiated into the sleeping samurai pittsburgh group at thier first shura di of 2013 at point state park. had a great time and great workout. eager to spar with them agian soon. certianly have much to learn about sword fighting. for example the group leader zerker while teaching close range skills remarked i was a lefty and changed his stance so we were the same. i thought to myself "but im not a lefty" and later realized i needed to change my stance to strong side forward like jeet kune do. or southpaw. but at the same time i always found it easy to box southpaws just bt stepping to my left and keeping my lead foot to the outside of thier lead foot thus staying away from thier power. normally a southpaw gives ppl trouble because they continue to move to thier right and directly into the southpaws power. will have to experiment with both strongside forward which makes a lot of sense and stepping to my left like fighting a southpaw and see if it works the same agianst a katana the way it works agianst striking/boxing. below are 2 videos of myself and skyler showing me the ropes before the rest of the crew arrived. video 1 is katana vrs katana. plus cameo by benji busting out some capoiera video 2 is katana vrs yari i have a few more videos from the day i will post soon |
